Classes are set up so that everyone has the same opportunity to learn with maximum enrollment of 8 students. It is not only for the raw beginner, but also for the experienced jeweler. The classes are held one day or evening a week for 8 weeks. Students will be exposed to various techniques such as sawing, soldering, forging, polishing and stone setting. You can explore surface techniques with a rolling mill, reticulation, and more complex stone setting. For those desiring to broaden their abilities, come try wax carving, mold making, fusion welding with Sparkie or experience the PUK 2 pulse arc welding technology. Why not "take a spin" and try your hand at a miniature lathe?
For those of you who do not live in the Asheville NC area, the Mountain Metalsmiths School also offers 2 and 3 day weekend workshops on wax carving, casting and mold-making,and jewelry fabrication. While you are here getting educated, why not take a few days to explore the beauty and culture of Western North Carolina. Drive the Blue Ridge parkway, sample the local cuisine, visit the many fine galleries of Asheville and the surrounding area.
Sometimes limited funds or lack of time to commit to either a weekend workshop or an eight week class session seems like a tough hurdle to manage. Let the One-on-One option work for you. For a mere $30 per hour plus materials, you can come in and have an instructional session on a particular technique. Perhaps you are running into some problems while creating your own jewelry. Come on down, let us look and see what the issue is, and we'll brainstorm together to solve it.
Due to popular demand, the Mountain Metalsmiths School is now offering open studio hours for those who want to work in a professional studio setting without being interrupted by phone calls or emails. You will have access to equipment not commonly found in a home studio for a nominal fee of $8 per hour plus materials. Space is limited so please call or email to reserve bench time. Hours are from 1pm to 4pm or 7pm to 10pm on Wednesdays.
